Long time no see. (Leo club Slovenske Konjice)

I was looking around my blog and found out that I left it without new posts for too long time now. This mainly happened because I had my matura exams and I was paying much more attention to books and school. But there is still a lot that I can tell you about that had happened since May.

Me being accepted as member

So in this post I’ll try to tell all about what has happened in Leo club Slovenske Konjice. Firstly I have to tell you that I have been accepted as full member on 17^th of May 2012 in Zreče at charity dance of Lions club Slovenske Konjice. Than we had another project, it was a stand-up comedy in Slovenske Konjice. Entry fee was 2€ and I total we raised round 300€ for children in needs. 

Grajska Finača

I told you before about Grajska finača, but now a can tell you more how it succeeded. Three days long festival was a success. All there days the concerts had big numbers of visitors. So on first day (electronic music) we had some DJs performing (DJ BREZZA, DJ PLETINIO, DJ BRLEE and DJ BUSHEE). Some of them were local others were from all over the country. We also had different show with lights and flames.

next day was reggae night. We had Makako jump, Same žvadi, Tadiman and 3 Kings Sound system preforming for our visitors. On second afternoon day we also prepared a bone fire for third day of festival.

Third day was the big deal. It was Rock night with local bands and one very popular Slovenian band: Cover Lover. We also light the bone fire we prepared the day before and had a grate night. Me and my friends who also helped preparing the festival were sleeping in tends on the castle of Slovenske Konjice where this all took place. 

Long time no see. (Youth center of Dravinja valley)

So also in youth center we did a lot. In March there was an action across all Slovenia. It was called “Lets clean Slovenia”. Round ten volunteers went to clean from our youth center. We got two locations to clean, and I must say that there was a lot of thrash in the nature. Together we picked up two filled car trailers. When picked we delivered trash to local dump center, where they weight amount of trash we delivered and took them. There were a lot of citizens that day; also army helped us to clean and others … Youth center is currently also organizing the biggest event in year. “Grajska finača” is three days long music festival (electronic, reggae and rock) and it’s happening on castle of Slovenske Konjice.  I’ll tell you more when the event is finished.

Long time, no see. (School students club of Dravinja valley)

Zasilni vhod

So I finally found time again to write my blog. Because I’m senior at school this year, it can be hard to find an hour to write something. A lot has happened during my off time, so I have a lot to write about each and every organization.

I will start with my own, school student club. I don’t know if I told you this already, our club gets the stage in our youth center every moth for one event. So usually that day we organize a party or small concert with local groups. In March we got a request from brand new band in our town that they would like to play. So we made that happen. Band with name Zasilni vhod (Emergency entrance) had their first concert which was a great success, a lot of local rock lovers came to see how they play and I must say that they were satisfied. Also in previous week, there was very big event on a ski resort near our town, so our school student club, together with high school student association of Slovenia went there to promote them self’s.  I must say that there were very few students skiing that day, because of late season time, so our stand up there stood pretty much in loneliness. So we decided that we will be the ones who will visit stands of our “neighbors” and made them a little hope, and some fun time for us. And now the last thing about school student club, do you remember project called Boomerang? We decided to host one, next week we have a lot of planning to do so there will be more updates about this next time. 

Our small projects

Lately my high school club members decided that we should spend more time together, so we could be more connected and the spirit will became more informal. That’s how they came up with small project called movie night. Movie night cost us nothing but can do a lot for our club to work better. All you need is a projector and a laptop, a place where to stay and some dinks or TV food, which anyone can supply. Most of technical stuff can be provided by our youth center so all that was left to us to get were some great movies.

So during our winter holydays we organized two movie nights one on Sunday, which was after the scheduled meeting and second one was on Thursday. Both of them were a great success and visited by most of our active members.

So first Saturday during our winter holydays was movie night Saturday and the second one was a lan-party Saturday. Because previous lan-party, which was organized by our youth center, was very well visited by high school students, we decided that we are going to try and organized it every two months.  So we made a decision who will take care of organizing and just did it again like the youth center did it last time. Because we were also a big part of it we already knew how to do everything, so if this event will happen every two months that should be a problem for us.

Winter school of creativity

After a long time, I finally found the courage to write again. Last week in February were winter holydays here in Slovenia. I don’t know if you remember, but each holydays we prepare a creativity school in our youth center. So it was now. Winter school of creativity lasted for three days.

Because the project was near carnival, we were doing masks on our first day of school. We did them from balloons and glued paper. And later we painted them together with elder people in local home for elder. 

The second day we went outside and built some snow castles which we later also painted with homemade paint.  We ended up with riding on bags downhill. The last day was more of a sports day. We went to the gym and prepare a simple polygon for children, made two teams and did a little competition which one is faster around it. Than our EVS volunteers from Spain showed us their traditional sport “human tower”.  

But this wasn’t the end with children, workshops continued also in the next day as a guitar class. On Wednesday we also had a traditional carnival for children in our town center and I was there as a security.

14th Cultural week in Slovenske Konjice

On 8^th on February Slovenia was celebrating a cultural day dedicated to our biggest poet dr. France Prešeren. He also wrote Slovenian national anthem Zdravljica. So in this purpose our Students club of Dravinja valley is organizing a cultural week.

This is usually a 10 day project full of everything. It started on Friday, 3^rd if February with Circus workshop in the afternoon and some music animation in the evening, on Saturday the 4^th they opened a photo exhibition of all previous cultural weeks, and in the evening there was a mega concert of very popular Slovenian rock group MI2. On Sunday there was a movie evening, Maruša Kuk one of member that was a volunteer in Peru previous year had a travelogue on Monday.

On Wednesday, 8^th of February students represented their collection of poems titled “Ob koncu sveta – By the world’s end”.  They release poem collections on every Cultural week. So there weekend was also full of concerts, yesterday we had EMKEJ an MITO, two famous Slovenian reapers, on stage, and today we have BIG FOOT MAMA, another great Slovenian rock band.  

So this is something about the biggest project of Students club of Dravinja Valley. You can find more on:

High school students boomerang.

High school students boomerang is a project that one of the high school club or section organize for other clubs to show them how to work and give them some useful data on how to become successful. So pervious week there was first boomerang project of 03 region in Velenje. I as a president of club couldn’t attend the project so I send for of clubs most active member to represent us. After returning home they told me that our club is one of the best in the region and that we should organize boomerang for others and help them in that way to become better, after all these year we are celebrating our 10^th year anniversary while most of the other clubs are existing less than half year.  So I hope that we will manage do organize boomerang in Dravinja valley and do something for all high school students in our region. 

Serious working weekend vs. Lan party.

So as I told you before I’m going to tell you how was it on students working weekend of my region.  Five participants from our local students club and school students club went there.  Everything began with speech from local mayor and a student’s club president, after that the whole Saturday was all about meeting and workshops how to made our clubs better, and how to use money that clubs get in the best way for all student as possible. I attended some workshops about organizing events, searching for our goals and sharing information from all other clubs that attended that working weekend. There were also other workshops about managing and leading clubs etc.

I was very amazed by the idea about working weekend because all clubs will be able to work better if they could get some information on how to operate from other clubs that maybe have more experiences. It’s also fun to meet other people that do the same job as you.

At the end of the day they also planned a great party but that one I couldn’t attend because I had to go to my local youth center where we had lan party. That was totally different thing. Some of our friends that have greater knowledge about computer got all the required equipment for it so we could play games between each other all and night.  Round 20 of us got together to play strategic games and some action games. So that boring day filled with meeting ended up fun playing all that games till 4a.m. in the morning.

That all for 20^th – 23^rd of January, just another crazy weekend. 

Weekend full of meetings

So usually the first two weekend of mouth are mostly filled with meetings on which we are talking what are we going to do till the end of the month. In weekend from 7^th till 8^th of January I had three different meetings.

Firs one was in Friday afternoon. Our club for school student got a visit Association of all Slovenian student clubs. They came to see how are we working because the found out that there are some clubs that are not using their financial support properly. They were very surprised by our work and found no deficiencies in it. We were also mentioned as very hard working club on association next day, and I also got some positive feedback by my colleges that work on this association.

Leo Konjice

Second one was on Friday night with Leo club Konjice. President gave u some reports how many money did we gather for families in December, we also did some planning for next month, but the meeting was quick, because there are no big events planned in the upcoming two or three weeks.

The third meeting was the meeting of our club. It took part on Saturday evening, first I told all member of positive feedback we got from Ljubljana about our work, than we planned our next event which will be a tournament in table football, we also decided who will go on next regional working weekend that will took place next weekend (14^th and 15^th of January) in Ljubno ob Savinji. I’ll go there only for one day, because there are other stuff that I have to do that weekend. I’ll tell you about them in the future. 

Hello 2012!

In the beginning of 2012 we did some presentations of our club on local high school; Gimnazija Slovenske Konjice. We did this to bring the club closer to youth in Dravinja valley. The presentation was half an hour long, in it we presented our entire projects, which we are, how we work, to who we help, where can they find us …At the end everyone was able to become a member of our club. In total till now presentation was seen from 90 school students. Others who yet didn’t saw it are already asking me when will we did it for them, so there are going to be more of this presentations in the future. With the presentation I also told them about Youth leadership project with Central Europe that I attended last year hopping that some of them will do the applications and went to USA for a month in summer of 2012, good luck to them.

Goodbye 2011!

So in last week of December I had school holydays so I decided not to do too many stuff. That’s why there were no posts on my blog, but any way I had a small project about witch I’m going to tell you now.

On our school students working weekend on Rogla, in the beginning of December, club members decided that we are going to have a stand in the center of Slovenske Konjice. On it we decided to bake free pancakes for everyone that will pass our stand. Together we bought all the ingredients that we needed, our club “chef” agreed that he will bake the pancakes and at the end we arranged the stand with our local info center who owns them, so that we got permission to use one of them.
We started at 11 a.m. till 16 p.m. In this time we made a lot of people happy. Two persons also thanked us on the local radio next day, so I call this project mission success.

But this was not the only thing I did during vacations. I also opened fan page for club on Facebook, so that everyone can follow what is happening in the Dravinja valley, especially school students.
