Student working weekend

From Friday, 9^th of December, till Sunday, 11^th of December, our school student club had a pretty special weekend. Round 15 of most active members, that are organizing and preparing events with club and also doing volunteering work for other organizations, went on a 3 day trip to Rogla. Rogla is a ski resort near town of Slovenske Konjice. The purpose of this working weekend was to get to know each other even better, and to do a rough plan for the next year.

The weekend started on Friday night, when we all arrived to the small house that we rented on top of the mountain. After spending the first night together, we woke up in a cold morning. Because we still all are high school students, we all are long sleepers, so our working day started round 12’o clock. Here we had our first meeting; its purpose was to divide all the work that we have in club to all active members. After it we had lunch, which was followed by next session. In our second talk we made the plan of our working year. We came up with some great and original ideas for our parties, so I can say that working weekend was very successful.  After second meeting we had free afternoon, so we tried some crazy stuff that Rogla can offer to its visitors. After that we also spend the next evening together. I can say that we also came up with our new motto and a great picture for our new T-shirts. After all that we all returned back to the Dravinja valley on Sunday, with one more great experience.

From rock concert to formal academy.

Another weekend has passed, another event had been done. It all started on Friday, 2^nd of December 2011, with rock concert organized by School students club of Dravinja valley.  The main purpose of this event was to build connection between high school students from Dravinja valley and high school students from city Celje. So next to our local band we hosted also two bands from Celje. All the rockers were younger than 18years. The event brought round 100 young people to our youth center to enjoy in great music and in great high school spirit. The event itself started round half past nine p.m. and ended round half past midnight.

On Saturday, 3^rd of December, I went to the formal academy by the tenth anniversary of Leo district Slovenia 129.  The academy was organized by Leo club Celjski vitezi from Celje. I must say that I liked it very much. Not just that we congratulated to each and every passed district president, we also awarded a little poor eyesight girl with a new laptop which will be in great help to her with her learning.  After the official part we went to other room where we continued the evening with some snacks and a great chat. 

Leo Olympics

On Friday, 25^th of November, Leo Konjice organized third traditional Leo Olympics. They took place in our local youth center, where I also do a lot of volunteering work.  Participants were competing in game of darts, hand soccer and billiard. Entering fee was 5€ per participant, we were also collecting money with selling cocktail. All the money that we collect on the event is going to go to the children from socially disadvantaged families. Winners from each discipline also got the medal at the end of the tournament.  I myself tried my luck in playing billiard, but I was accidently eliminated in semi-finals for putting the black ball in to early. So let’s hope for more luck next time.

Hanging out with Leo club.

So on Saturday, 19^th of November I went bowling with two friends from my local Leo club Slovenske Konjice, about which I was telling you recently. We went to Maribor, there we also met some friend from other Leo clubs cross Slovenia, so I really got to meet some great people that are interested in the same stuff that I am.  All this was organized by Leo Maribor, so each participant could bowl for hour and a half; we also ordered some pizzas and drinks, just to make our evening better. After our time ran out we went to the city Maribor.

First club meeting.

On Friday, 18^th of November, I had the first meeting with my club in school year 2011/2012. All the students are filled with energy for oncoming year, so we talked about allot of things.

Firstly we made a plan for our next event. That a rock concert that we are organizing for young high school students bands. We are going to host three very good bands, of which all the players are aged from 15 to 18. Reaction of fans and local youth so far is great, so I hope that all bands will be able to show their qualities to them, and of course impress them with their music.

Next thing was our firs working weekend. We are planning to go to a sky resort near our town, and spend their three days. Goal for this weekend is to make as detailed plan as possible for our next year and off course getting to know each other even better, so that the relationship between us can get even stronger, and with this I believe that we can also improve our work. On this meeting we made a schedule for our staying time, we set the rules and talked about food, drinks and free time activities that we’re going to do.

At the end we also said something about making our own T-shirts, and a trip to Barcelona, which is still in a planning stage right now. 

St. Nicholas delicacies

Passed weekend I was again doing some charity work with LEO club from Slovenske Konjice.  We are collecting goods, for children from socially disadvantaged families.  Firs we had a meeting on Friday where we made a plan, who, when and where we’ll collect delicacies for children. So we formed groups of two that will work in two shopping centers. Each pair was on duty for two hours.

So our plan was that we will be standing at the entrance to the shop, and informing people about our action. Main point is telling them that they can buy anything they want for those children, and after buying it they can leave it in the shopping chart, that we have it prepared at the exit. Allot of people bought different things this Saturday, so we collected in total more than two full shopping charts of different candies, toys, books and school supplies. Next week we will repeat this in the next shopping center in our town, hoping that we’ll collect enough for every child. The presents will be handed over to them on St. Nicholas day at 6^th of December. I can’t wait to see those happy faces, and I’m also hopping that next week action we’ll be also a successes.

The general assembly

On 2^nd of November we also had the most important meeting for our club. That’s general assembly, where new members for different committees of club are elected for next year. So in one hour we got 15 new, some of them are from last year, students that will help me as a president to work on a projects and different volunteering work.

Because this is the last year of my presidency, I hope that I’ll go on grate with new team, and that we’ll be as much successful as we were last year and even more. 

Autumn school of creativity

So during the week I had my autumn school holydays. But most of students were resting during the holyday, but not me. I was animator at autumn school of creativity in your local youth center. This is a program that we do in every holydays. We include 25 children from age of 7 to 15 and its all free for them. This week the program lasted for three days.

Interesting experiment – making electricity with indoor bicycle

On first day the theme was generation gap and intercultural learning, so we took the kids to local home for elderly. There we had a travelogue about Peru, and after it they were doing together one traditional Peruvian food. After that we went back to youth center where they did one drawing made from sand, that’s glued to the paper.

Second day we went together to Maribor to house of experiments, where kids had three very interesting workshops. In one they were building wooden planes, and they were flying very well. In another they were calculating how many dices of sugar are in some drinks and other food that we eat. And in third one they were doing different experiments that were very well adjusted for children’s mind.


On Friday, so third day, we went on a two hour walk on the mountain of Slovenske Konjice, when we returned we had presentation on aikido, so everyone learned some basic moves of this sport. And after that we also prepared some chestnuts for them, to celebrate another successful creativity school.

A busy two weeks.

So some time had passed since I last wrote on my blog, but don’t worry, I’ll try to write everything that happened in those two weeks, that I was gone.

So let me start from a Saturday 22^nd of October.  On that day some of volunteers from our school student club went to a rehearsal of local fire department as people involved in crash. So the plan was easy, they got two old cars, crashed them and park them. And then our job was to get into those crashed cars and wait for firefighters to get us out.  Sounds very easy, but it’s different. Even if you know that everything is just a simulation, you still get scared when you see those big scissors that are going to chop the whole car and get you out. It took almost an hour to get me out. But it was an experience that will certainly keep me away from crashing my cars.

 Next thing was on Saturday, 29^th of October, it was an assembly of all youth clubs in town of Slovenske Konjice.  We had to meet because president of assembly is going to Washington DC for three months and he had to give his place to next person.  So we elected new president and now we are waiting probably on a next meeting where we’ll set all the boards that we need, to get assembly up and running.

So since the school started, my energy is more in to studying that being active. But my weekends are still very busy. So I’ll tell you more about my previous week. Let’s start with Friday. On Friday I had a last meeting with my school students club, for past school year. We did some plans for future year and plans for general assembly, where we will build a team that will work next year.  As a president of club I was very pleased with the work that was done in the past year with my crew.

The next day, Saturday, 15.10.2011 i went to the meeting of our local student club, as a representative of school students. We talked there more about the students, so we did some plans for their next event that takes place today in the evening, and it’s called »brucovanje«. This is some kind of a baptism for all freshmen’s that are in college.

On Sunday I had rehearsal for my drama club, but they just slipped out of my schedule, so I’ll tell you more about that after this weekend, because I won’t miss next ones.  The group has to work hard, because we have next premiere in mid-December.

So that all from me for now, I’ll tell you more about this weekend later, just for taste, I have some work with fire department and drama class. 

LEO club Slovenske Konjice

On this Friday I went on a first LEO meeting in my town, Slovenske Konjice. The meeting took place in a hotel in Konjice.  I really can’t tell you a lot about this LEO club right now, but I’ll shore update you with all new stuff here that I’ll be doing it with it. 

Presidential elections

One of other organizations that I’m active in is also my high school – Gimnazija Slovenske Konjice. I am a class president for four years now and I was also vice president of the school for past two years. Because me and my friend who was president are seniors now, don’t have right to be a president, we had to do new elections for it. Usually a president of school goes to meetings in capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana, where they work with School student association of Slovenia (Dijaška organizacija Slovenije – DOS).

So this year we elected girl from third year, in hope that she will be as great leader of our school, as my friend previous two years was.

So because I probably won’t be traveling all the time, I started to write also “My active blog”. Here I’ll try to describe you the biggest part of my life right now and for past three years. So just to start; everything began with becoming a member of School student’s club of Dravinja valley (Klub dijakov Dravinjske doline – KDDD). Everything started when I randomly went to a meeting with my friend, soon they started to like me and they also saw that I’m capable of being a good team worker. Becoming a member of club also meant that I’m now a volunteer in a Youth center of Dravinja valley (Mladinski center Dravinjske doline – MCDD), because these two organizations work together very close. So after first year in club I became a president of it. Now I’m running most of the programs that we organize and lead sessions.

Most of my traveling was also connected with this club and youth center that you can find on my traveling blog. So I hope that trough my blog you will found out our work as successful and useful for our community.
